Using your German mobile contract in Northern Cyprus will result in additional charges since it’s outside the EU. We advise against using mobile data with your home contract unless you have an international roaming plan specifically for non-EU countries. For a longer stay, we recommend purchasing a local SIM card for a nominal fee (approximately €6 for 10GB) at stores like Turkcell in larger cities. Please note, if you stay for more than 90 days, you must register your phone to continue using it. For an iPhone 14 Max Pro with 1GB, the tax is currently around £400. Alternatively, you can purchase a budget local phone and use the local SIM card. Tip: You can still use apps like WhatsApp with your German number even with the local SIM inserted. WhatsApp will prompt you to choose the number you'd like to use, even if your German SIM is not in the phone.

We recommend flying into Larnaca (in the south of Cyprus), which is about a 70-minute taxi ride to the Golden Mile in Northern Cyprus, or Ercan (in the north), which is about a 40-minute drive. Paphos (in the south) is over 2 hours away, making it less convenient, but it is also an option, often at a lower price.
